Tilly's Report Page 1Laura believeTillys Report Page 2s that reading is her biggest love in teaching. She checks out books from the library to read to her first, second and third graders and encourages them to read too. One of Laura’s third-grade students, Tilly Johnson of Perry, chose to write a biography of Dolly Parton for one of her class assignments. At the same time, Laura was reading about Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in our library newsletter. Laura talked with Tilly about the program and how wonderful it was that Dolly Parton had started this reading program. Tilly loved learning about Dolly Parton. Pictured is Tilly with her report displayed. She not only wrote a biography, but wrote down Dolly’s 50 top songs, all of the Grammy’s and awards Dolly's received, and the words to her favorite song of Dolly’s, "Try". The message in the words of this song seems to be a message for children in learning to read, “You have to try. When you think you can’t do it, just try a little harder. Just dig a little deeper and go a little farther but try. You have to try.” Laura also wrote this note with her donation to The Library Foundation: “Your collection is incredible. We love all of the children’s activities and artwork. Thanks for all you do!”
