The Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library is partnering with the United Way of Greater Topeka providing a unique early years book gifting program to Shawnee County called Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
The program mails a brand new, age-appropriate book every month to enrolled children from birth to age five, creating a home library of up to 60 books to read and share with parents. Imagination Library instills a love of books and reading from an early age. Studies show that participation in the program positively and significantly improves early childhood literacy.
For just $30 a year one child in Shawnee County can participate. Currently there are 5,742 of the 11,005 children ages birth to five or 52% in Shawnee County registered. Our immediate goal is to reach 60% participation and raise $1 million to provide a sustainable program to help ensure a bright future for all Shawnee County children. Give the gift of reading today.
