Give the gift of reading

Every child will be ready for kindergarten. This is one of five community impact goals the library is committed to. With your help, we can help make it happen!

The library is partnering with the United Way of Greater Topeka to bring a unique early years book gifting program to Shawnee County called Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The program mails a brand new, age-appropriate book every month to enrolled children from birth to age five, creating a home library of up to 60 books to read and share with parents.

Imagination Library instills a love of books and reading from an early age. Studies show that participation in the program positively and significantly improves early childhood literacy. The books are selected by a blue-ribbon panel of experts and paid for by the Dollywood Foundation. Our community only has to pay the postage.

For just $25 a year one child in Shawnee County can participate. We want all 12,519 children ages birth to five to take part in the program. Our goal is to raise $1 million so we can provide a sustainable program to help ensure a bright future for all Shawnee County children. Donate online today, or mail your gift to The Library Foundation, 1515 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, KS 66604.
